Saline is a luxury Italian villa located in Strada in Chianti, a 20-minute ride from Florence. Perched on a hilltop, this former Buddhist and yoga retreat in the heart of Tuscany, was fully renovated in 2011. The mission was to preserve the old characteristics of this casa colonica (Italian country house) while modernizing certain aspects to adapt to a modern lifestyle. There are two structures on the property that can house 12 people. The main one, known as the ItalianVilla, has three bedrooms and an office with closet and en suite bathroom room which can be converted into a twin bedroom, five bathrooms in total, two living rooms, a dining room and an elevator. There are two fireplaces, each with reclaimed wood and terracotta tiles. The oven, located at the heart of the house, was once used to cook bread for the town. It has been fully restored to cook excellent pizza or schiacciata, and is now part of a kitchen with modern, high-tech, restaurant-quality Viking appliances that include a steam oven. There is floor heating under the reclaimed tiles. Historically, every Tuscan villa or casa colonica (a farmhouse) had an adjacent “fienile” now renamed Guest House, a structure where hay was stored. The terracotta slats enabled ventilation and protection from the sun.

 A 20-minute ride from Florence, Saline is located in Strada in Chianti, just off the historic Chiantigiana road that traverses the Chianti region. Its convenient location near the cradle of the Renaissance allows for short trips to the city's myriad museums, churches, excellent restaurants and shopping. Meanwhile, its location in the heart of the wine country allows for an oasis in nature, protected from tourists. The nearby towns of Impruneta, where terracotta originated, and charming towns like Greve in Chianti and Siena, are full of artisan shops, vineyards that offer wine tastings, castles, churches, restaurants with traditional Tuscan cooking, and roads with unforgettable views of the Tuscan countryside.
