Location and Surrounding Area. Villa Pietra Santa is surrounded by private parkland and sits in a panoramic position close to the centre of Taormina. The views from the various terraces are breathtaking and you can relax in total comfort and dine al fresco as you watch the activity below. Sicilian cuisine is arguably the best in Italy and the wines are already famous on international wine-tasting circuits. Taormina is a lively, celebrity-studded town perched on the clifftops and has seen many an artist and writer pass through its streets. It has been a magnet for artistic types since the days of the Roman Empire and then the Grand Tour: Goethe, Alexander Dumas, Tsar Nicholas II, Johannes Brahms, Gustav Klimt, D.H. Lawrence, Richard Wagner, Oscar Wilde, Truman Capote, John Steinbeck, Francis Ford Coppola, Greta Garbo, Federico Fellini, Cary Grant, Elisabeth Taylor and Woody Allen have all enjoyed the delights that Taormina has to offer. In addition to the gorgeous medieval streets and stunning views, the Greek Roman amphitheatre is Sicily's second biggest after Syracuse but is perhaps the better known due to its stunning location.

Syracuse is a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site and was founded as an important Greek settlement. It matched Athens in size during its heyday and was the birthplace of the esteemed mathematician Archimedes. The surrounding area is literally littered with sites of important Greek, Roman and Baroque archaeological interest; Ortiga island, the Temple of Apollo and the amphitheatre to name but a few.

Catania sits at the foot of one of the world's most active volcanoes, Mount Etna. The Roman poet Virgil wrote what could well have been a first-hand description of one of the volcano's frequent eruptions in his Aeneid.

Villa Pietra Santa  is about an hour's drive from Catania international airport and the base of Mount Etna. It is about an hour and a half's drive from Syracuse.

The Property. Villa Pietra Santa  has a truly illustrious past and has been the home of various British and Italian noble families. It was redesigned in the 1940s by the renown Italian architect Tomaso Buzzi. It was during the Spanish aristocrat Don Mimì Guarnaschelli's ownership in the 1950s, that Marlene Dietrich, Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas, Louis Armstrong and Domenic Modugno stayed here.

Villa Pietra Santa sleeps up to 16 guests in six, panoramic, double bedrooms in the main house and two double bedrooms in the two annexes. Each of the eight double bedrooms has air conditioning, Wi-Fi and a sumptuous private bathroom. All of the bedrooms contain antique furniture in keeping with the stylish atmosphere of the home.

The ground floor houses an enormous kitchen, perfect for rustling up delicious meals, two dining rooms, various sitting rooms and a relaxing library/sitting area with a fireplace. All of the rooms on the ground floor have direct access to the gardens.

The glorious, infinity swimming pool can be heated on request and offers far-reaching views out across the Bay of Isola Bella and the Strait of Messina. The poolside area is fully furnished with sun loungers for making the most of the Sicilian sunshine.
