Ivy-clad Villa Glicine sits on the south-eastern flanks of Mount Etna just a few minutes outside the charming town of Trecastagni and within easy reach of both Taormina and Catania. Designed and built by the prominent French architect Savin J. Couelle, the villa is a concentration of all that is best about houses in this part of Sicily: high vaulted ceilings, cool airy arches, smooth lavastone features, terracotta floors, colourful, rural antique furniture and extensive landscaped gardens, fragrant with orange blossom, bougainvillea and jasmine! Oh...and then there's the pool!

The Property

Inside: the house is on three floors. From the main entrance, up a few steps, one accesses the entrance hall. This leads in turn to a dining room and then onto the extremely spacious living area, complete with fireplace and large French window accessing the beautifully tended gardens. The well-equipped kitchen opens onto a wonderful flower-covered patio area, perfect for al fresco dining.

A ramp leads down to a lower ground floor with a single bedroom, a twin bedroom, a bathroom with shower and a guest bathroom.

The first floor is home to the main sleeping quarters and has three double bedrooms and one single. Two of the doubles have en-suite bathrooms (one with shower and tub, the other with tub only), while the third shares a bathroom with shower with the single bedroom.

Outside: the gardens are, as previously mentioned, beautifully tended, with large expanses of perfect lawn, Mediterranean trees and plants and perfumed flowers. The wonderful pool is set in a manicured lawn and shady areas for an afternoon siesta abound. The pergola behind the kitchen will certainly be most people’s favourite spot for evening meals.

The Area

Villa Glicine is situated in a panoramic position between Mount Etna and the sea, and is within easy reach of both. Taormina and Catania are both within about 30 minutes drive, and the nearest beaches are about the same distance away.

The 18 hole Golf course Il Picciolo is an easy drive, and several of the traditional lava-stone villages on the flanks of Etna are well worth a visit. Many guests at Villa Etna, however, will be well content to relax in the stunning surroundings of the house, the gardens and the pool.
